I am posting this message on behalf of my friend who believes in Buddhism. He told me today that the reason to why he can't accept Christianity is because he thinks Christians are as self center as the others because Christians work for God in order to avoid going to hell. Becoming a christian is actually based on a selfish motive, which is not that much different from believing in other religions. For example, Buddhist wants believes in Buddhism because they want to becoem buddas themselves, which is based on a selfish motive.
Another point he rasied was that when I told him that we can draw power from god, he said that buddists can also draw power from various buddas. Drawing power from different buddas, he believes, is more powerful than drawing power from only one source.
So, WHat do u guys think about these 2 questions?

This argument he uses is a fallacy (as I'm sure you know). He is saying that because he can draw on MORE buddhas and we only have ONE god his religion is more powerful etc....
This is wrong but I dont' think you can convince him necessarily...
consider:
I buy an engine that outputs 500 horsepower (oooh very powerful!), you buy 18 engines that each put out 2 horsepower each. Which is more powerful? the ONE 500 hp engine? or the combination of the 18 2 hp engines?
Obivously 500 hp is alot more than 36 hp....
So his argument really is based on a fallacy that more= better.... or more powerful etc. You can counter the argument, but really for two beleivers of a different faith I don't think you can convince him taht our god is more powerful, than all the buddhas' (that don't even exist) in the universe.
